I once tried to explain what a ''fall'' is to a non-Indian friend! Impossible task!
ReplyDeleteYou must be knowing what it is though, Vinayak, just wondering...
Come marriage season and a curious me would watch my mother, grandmother and aunts bring out all their colorful sarees from old trunks and new suitcases. And then they could sit together and thread sew falls onto the saris. Matching color to color.
ReplyDeleteI always made it a point to ask them to explain why they would want to add a simple piece of cloth to their beautiful sari. The usual explanation involved gravity - a fall adds weight to the sari and lets it 'fall' perfectly.
