And from these records, Kishore Kumar picked up the art of Yodel singing, an art perfected in bathroom and then introduced by him to the world of Hindi film music. ReplyDeleteThe parental units were avid readers of the Illustrated Weekly. For me (as a kid) the greatest attraction was the serialised Phantom and Dennis the menace comics.

ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I think these days Comic corners are probably the most neglected corner of Newspapers. Boxes keep getting smaller, strips keep getting repeated, Tarzan shows up in pink dress and one can barely read the text. On bad days, I wonder why they even bother publishing them anymore.

you became a member of a comics store by paying 10 rupees (of course that money was refundable). Then you had to pay 50 paise per day for one comics. For digests it was 1 rupee per day.
I fantasized about super commando dhruv because he would tackle the villains without any superpower !
