Hippie Dharam and a great Indian Comics blog

Found this in a post about The World Of Illustrated Weekly Of India at an awesome blog called Comic World . The blog is not just dedicated to Indrajaal (long gone, but still synonymous with comics in India) but it is a blog delightfully filled with lot of Fauladi Singh, obscure Hindi comics and strips ('Film Reporter Kalam Das' anyone ), covers of old Hindi novels, vintage ads, Newspaper clippings, film trivia and vintage. Stuff like:

Do visit!

  1. Great link. It brought back so many memories. Two ads stick in the mind: Gold Spot and Bombay Dyeing!
The parental units were avid readers of the Illustrated Weekly. For me (as a kid) the greatest attraction was the serialised Phantom and Dennis the menace comics.
Suffering a serious nostalgia attach :)

  2. This is what I do - make people suffer :)
On a side note, I think these days Comic corners are probably the most neglected corner of Newspapers. Boxes keep getting smaller, strips keep getting repeated, Tarzan shows up in pink dress and one can barely read the text. On bad days, I wonder why they even bother publishing them anymore.

  3. Thanks Vinayak Bhai for this honor of my humble self(read blog).

  4. Those were the days !!
    The age of comics.
you became a member of a comics store by paying 10 rupees (of course that money was refundable). Then you had to pay 50 paise per day for one comics. For digests it was 1 rupee per day.

I fantasized about super commando dhruv because he would tackle the villains without any superpower !

I always like to hear back :)
