Olive Ridley Turtles take on Tata. Touché Turtle!

According to wiki page on Olive Ridley Turtle:
In the Indian Ocean, a major nesting ground for the Olive Ridley turtles is in the Indian state of Orissa. Beaches in Devi, Gahirmatha and Rushikulya are known nesting sites for this turtle's Indian Ocean population.
The long term plan is to build 14 ports along the Orissa's 480 km coastline. This comes around  to about one every 35 km.

Gahiramatha is believed to be the largest nesting ground of the species in the world. Gahiramatha Sanctuary is close to Bhitarakanika, believed to be India’s second largest mangrove forest

Dhamra gets its name from Dhamra estuary, the confluence of Brahmani river and Baitarani river.

A port is being built at Dhamra, less than 5 Kilometers from the Bhitarkanika Sanctuary and 15 Kilometers ("as the crow flies") from Gahirmatha Sanctuary.

A catchy campaign video by Greenpeace protesting construction of the port by TATA at Dhamra in Orissa.

  1. I am not surprised by the way the Green peace organization is behaving. They have always been criticized for being too radical, too alarmist or too mainstream, for using methods bordering on eco-terrorism, or having itself caused environmental damage in its activities, for taking positions which are not environmentally or economically sound, and for valuing non-human causes over human causes. These criticisms have been not only made by governments, industrial and political lobbyists but also by and other environmental groups

  2. I personally am very upset with green peace, fighting for anything which is right is great but to simply make noice and drama is not nice, we Indians need to know that for the past so many yrs Orissa has always been in the news for constant floods and cyclones its very disturbing so many of them lost their lives humans , animals , vegetation, tress infrastructure.

  4. Coming up with advertisements like this and not portraying the real facts is a real shame

  5. On this low-traffic page, in a timespan of only 6 minutes, I get 'enlightening' comment by 4 'random' people, 3 of them presumely women, and all the while my statcounter doesn't even register their spammy presence; it all only has me convinced that their is a strong but stupid lobby working pro-actively against the voices who want to know what will happen to the turtles.

  7. The facts are clear dredging has had no impact on the nesting this year.
Sustained development is a win-win situation in all cases

  8. Tata has obviously done its homework and going ahead with the project. People like you made such a big deal when Dubai was building their palm islands and the world, now its a marine life haven. It easy to post blogs sitting comfortable with a good job. What about the development and employment generated. Tata will not let the turtles and us down. Don worry.

Indian Cigarette Vintage Ads

He put a cigarette in his mouth and, as a matter of silent routine, offered one to Gwyn, who said ‘No thanks.”Richard looked at him.”I packed it in.”"You what?”"I stopped. Three days ago. Cold. That’s it. You just make the life choice.” Richard looked up and inhaled needfully. He gazed at his cigarette. He didn’t really want to smoke it. He wanted to eat it. Almost the only thing that he still liked about Gwyn was that he still smoked…Paradoxically, he no longer wanted to give up smoking: what he wanted to do was take up smoking. Not so much to fill the little gaps between cigarettes with cigarettes (there wouldn’t be time, anyway) or to smoke two cigarettes at once. It was more that he felt the desire to smoke a cigarette even when he was smoking a cigarette. The need was and wasn’t being met… While it would always be true and fair to say that Richard felt like a cigarette, it would now be doubly true and fair to say it. He felt like a cigarette. And he felt like a cig

Kishore Kumar, Yodel-ay-ee-oooo Songs, A List

*Updated with corrections pointed out by Bart Plantenga , author of some incredible book on Yodeling including Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo: The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World. -0- Kishore Kumar 's brother Anoop Kumar, who we basically know for the line ' O manu tera toh hua ab mera kya hoga ', used to own lots of Austrian music records. And from these records, Kishore Kumar picked up the art of Yodel singing, an art perfected in bathroom and then introduced by him to the world of Hindi film music. According to his biography 'Kishore Kumar: method in madness‎ ' by Derek Bose, "Kishore was a fan of the Swiss singer Tex Norton [* Tex Morton, an Australian cowboy born in New Zealand who sang  in the gene autry / Jimmie Rodgers style ] and the Australian Jimmy Rogers [* Jimmie Rodgers , perhaps the most American and one of the most famous yodelers in the world, famous for his blue yodels ] as well." Although most of these songs by Kishore Kumar are t
