If you visit one of the tea estates, you'll realize that they are underpaid, and they squander all their income on liquor, as a result of which they remain uneducated. Because of this, the management of the tea estates is still able to exploit them.<br /><br />I always thought that people in the hills drink a lot, and I have always found proof of this (being from a hilly state myself, and having visited some of the hilly states of the North). But Jim Corbet, in his books, is bold enough to say that "the men of our hills don't drink".
